London ITU Limited was formed to fill a gap in the market: the provision of the highest quality critical care to privately insured or self-pay patients.

As a group of highly trained and experienced ICU consultants in delivering and developing a high quality service in our organisations, we offer a comprehensive service with the ultimate goal of achieving excellence in the care provided to critical care patients in the private healthcare sector.

Mission and Goals

Our mission is to deliver top quality, 24/7 clinical support to all patients admitted to the adult intensive care unit & high dependency unit. Our team of experienced ICU consultants covers a wide range of subspecialties within critical care (cardiac anaesthesia & critical care, neurocritical care, general intensive care, complex medical patients and high risk surgical patients). We are experts in weaning patients from mechanical ventilation, tracheostomies, removal of artificial airways and early rehabilitation to facilitate a full and prompt recovery of patients admitted to critical care.

Where we are

At the BMI The London Independent Hospital, we lead a motivated multi-disciplinary team of Consultant Intensivists, Critical Care Resident Medical Officers, Critical Care Nurses, Pharmacists, Physiotherapists and Dieticians to deliver the best possible quality of care.

The 24 hour critical care unit at the LIH is a modern, fully equipped 6 bedded unit with access to invasive & non-invasive mechanical ventilation, renal replacement therapy, advanced intravascular haemodynamic monitoring and 24 hour access to diagnostic and interventional radiological procedures. We offer critical care outreach reviews for patients at risk of deterioration outside critical care areas.

Graduated from The University of Edinburgh 1999, postgraduate training in some of London's leading hospitals including, Kings College Hospital, University College London Hospital & St Thomas' Hospital. Appointed Consultant in Cardiothoracic and Transplant Anaesthesia at Harefield Hospital in 2012. As anaesthetic lead for catheterisation laboratories and radiology he has pioneered initiatives aimed at improving patient safety, including designing bespoke WHO checklists and being a leading member of an innovative simulation training programme for emergencies in acute cardiology. He has also been instrumental in helping to build lung tumour ablation into a nationally leading clinical service by initiating a pre-assessment and optimisation clinic for very high risk patients. He is currently the departmental lead for 'Anaesthesia Clinical Services Accreditation' driving forward significant improvements in patient care, safety and experience. He is also the lead for undergraduate education in intensive care.

Dr Javid Khan is a specialist in neuroanaesthesia and neurocritical care. He is a Consultant at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, London. He graduated from St. Bartholomew’s and The Royal London School of Medicine, University of London. Subsequent specialist training was undertaken in London hospitals including at University College Hospital, Royal Free Hospital, Moorfield’s Eye Hospital, and at Queen Square. He then successfully completed a one year Clinical Fellowship in Neuroanaesthesia at The University of Western Ontario in Canada. This is a leading Neurosciences Centre with particular expertise in complex neurovascular and functional neurosurgery. He has an interest in postgraduate medical education and training, and has previously been Deputy Regional Adviser for Intensive Care Medicine in the North-East Thames Region.

Graduated from University of Alcalá de Henares (Madrid) in 1999. He completed his postgraduate training in Intensive Care Medicine at La Paz Hospital (Madrid). La Paz Hospital is a large teaching hospital and a major Trauma and Burns centre. This was followed by a 2 year ICU fellowship at The Royal London Hospital. Appointed as a Consultant Intensivist in General & Neurocritical Care at Queens Hospital in 2010. Clinical Lead for Critical Care Outreach & Tracheostomies since 2011. Implemented a successful ICU Follow Up service at Queens Hospital in 2012. Appointed Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine Tutor in 2014. Completed a Masters Degree in Healthcare Management in the Centre of Financial Studies (Madrid) in 2014.

Graduated from Vilnius (Lithuania) University medical school in 1997, where he completed his postgraduate training. In 2006 completed 4-year research programme and awarded PhD in Biomedical Sciences. Appointed as Consultant Anesthetist and General Intensivist at BHR University Hospitals NHS Trust in 2005. He was appointed as College Tutor by the Royal College of Anaesthetists in 2008. Established modular training programme at BHRUT and in 2013 was elected to the Royal College of Anaesthetists Examinations Board. Honorary lecturer at Lithuanian University of Health Sciences. Principal investigator for several multi-centre trials in ICM and Anaesthesia.

Dr Jitendra Garg is a Consultant in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine. He graduated from Bhopal University (India) in 1989. His specialist training was undertaken in leading London teaching hospitals including University College Hospital, Royal Free Hospital and St Bartholomew’s Hospital. Since his Consultant appointment at BHR University Hospitals, he has established several very successful postgraduate training courses for doctors in acute medical specialities. He is highly experienced in all areas of adult critical care, including the management of patients with severe sepsis and multi-organ dysfunction, hypoxic brain injury after cardiac arrest, and patients who require renal replacement therapy in ITU.

Graduated from Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School in 1996. Postgraduate training in London, Cambridge and Toronto. Appointed as a Consultant in Neuroanaesthesia & Neurocritical care at Queens Hospital in 2008. Clinical Lead for Neurocritical Care since 2009. Appointed as an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Queen Mary’s University of London in 2010. In 2013 he was appointed as the Intensive Care Medicine representative to the prestigious London Neuroscience Strategic Clinical Network, which is driving forward quality and commissioning for Neurological diseases in London.
